Chuck Vegas Arrives in Chuck Vegas
Over the past two decades, the members of Chuck Vegas have played together under several names across many different states (Wisconsin, Alabama, North Carolina, and most recently Illinois), each band representing a distinct chapter in their musical journey. From the alt-country roots of Box Elder and the heartfelt harmonies of Dear August to the driving energy of Yellow Hammer Heart and the experimental edge of Perilous Cole, the band’s sound has evolved—grounded in connection, collaboration, and craft.
Formed in 2019 in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, Chuck Vegas emerged as the most personal expression of that long-standing musical bond. In 2025, Adrienne and Tyler Applegate relocated to Charleston, Illinois—closer to their northern bandmates and better positioned for more frequent collaboration.
Three states, 300+ shows, and five albums later, the band is back together.
Hello Sky Goodbye Land
The current lineup—Dan O’Brien, Douglas Milks, Adrienne Applegate, and Tyler Applegate—reunited last summer with a handful of rough tracks written by Adrienne. Over three weeks, each member practiced their parts remotely before gathering in person for the first time in years at DNA Music Labs in Madison, Wisconsin. They tuned up, plugged in, and jumped straight into recording. The result of their latest collaboration is Hello Sky Goodbye Land—a bold, reflective new album that blends history and heart with fresh creative energy.
The album is dedicated to OPA and inspired by the spirit of their late friend Davey Williams. It also honors the memory of former bandmates Tara Martin, Andy McDevitt, Darren Radbourne, and Adam Austin Sears—dear friends and collaborators who helped shape the journey but are no longer with us.
Chuck Vegas will return to the studio this fall to begin work on part two. In the meantime, you can catch them around Charleston—affectionately and ironically also known as Chuck Vegas.
